de tre hovedøyene Lyngøya, Kalvøya og Flesa. I tillegg finnes en rekke mindre øyer, holmer og skjær. Et større gruntvannsområde omgir hele øygruppa. Vegetasjonen på de større øyene preges i stor grad av lynghei, men flere steder finnes flekkvis grasvegetasjon, noe som må tilskrives den sterke fuglegjødslinga. Øyene har også vært nytta til sauebeite. Strandlinja består hovedsaklig av klippestrand og svaberg. Hosnaøyan er et gammelt fiskevær og her står omlag 10-15 fiskerbuer. Noen brukes også i dag av fiskere fra Stokkøya. Området er et svært viktig hekkeområde for sjøfugl. Her finnes kommunens viktigste koloni for teist (min. 50 par, 1990), og to kolonier av den trua underarten nordlig sildemåke (50 par i 1990, men kan variere noe fra år til år). Ellers hekker blant anna ærfugl, tjeld, steinvender, tyvjo, gråmåke, svartbak, fiskemåke og rødnebbterne. Viktig myteområde for ærfugl. Gruntvannsområdene brukes som overvintringsområde for skarv, ærfugl, havelle, måker og alkefugler. Bratthenga på Flesa brukes mye av skarv i høstsesongen (\"skarvflaug\") til opphold og vingetørking i forbindelse med næringssøk i sjøområdene mellom Hosnaøyene og Stokkøya om høsten. Yngleplass for oter på Lyngøya. Øygruppa regnes som minkfri (1990). Området bemerker seg med et rikt mangfold av arter, samt innslag av arter som har status som direkte trua og sårbare.
